Geoarchaeology as a hybrid subdiscipline originating in the fields of Earth Sciences and Social Sciences has increased its interest globally and especially in the last two decades in Latin America. 
The finding of a trepanning skull in Planadas, Tolima, a rare find in Colombian archaeology, motivates these reflections; a description of the finding and its context is made and similar practices in Colombia, the American continent, especially Peru, Bolivia, Mesoamerica, Europe, Asia and Oceania are studied and related.
