Abstract: The following article is a qualitative comparison of the various studies conducted on the representation of felines in pre-Hispanic American art, with accent on the mayan culture. In this paper we focus on the findings, theses and methods provided by the specialists on historical and symbolic interpretation. We propose to weigh theorethical and conceptual analisis with the purpose to unveil the origin of the feline's symbolic power and the significance of its cultural meanings. We explore felines in literature from a theoretical perspective, putting in balance authors and their proposals  as well as our knowledge goals.
