Abstract: This paper examines the funerary contexts in Lake Cuitzeo, northern Michoacán, with special emphasis on documented sites such as "La Nopalera", Tres Cerritos, Barranquilla Grande, Copándaro de Galeana and La Mina, whose periods of occupation range from the Late Classic (550 - 700 AD) to the Late Postclassic (1200 - 1521 AD). The research focuses on understanding the funerary patterns and their temporal variations, particularly those that may have emerged with the influence of the Tarascan domination in this lacustrine environment. Methodologically, the analysis is based on information collected from primary and secondary sources, which is examined under the approach of the Archaeology of Death. This methodological approach facilitates the identification of funerary practices, including gestures associated with the disposition of remains, types of offerings, and mortuary architecture. A comprehensive review of extant literature is undertaken, and the application of contextual analysis techniques is employed to deepen the understanding of funerary rituals in the region. By addressing funerary practices at Lake Cuitzeo, this paper contributes to the broader understanding of mortuary rituals in Western Mexico, highlighting both the constants and the transformations that have occurred in time and space.
